World Day for Cultural Diversity: Music for Peace

World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is an annual event on the 21st of May celebrated by WASLA as it is an opportunity to promote WASLA’s values.

As an organization that promotes cultural dialogue, through our activities we foster the idea that cultural diversity is a main factor of sustainable development.

This year due to the pandemic caused by COVID-19 all community cultural practices were suspended around the world, but WASLA’s team of volunteers found a way to mark this important day using music as a unifying force to raise awareness about the cultural wealth of our world.

Music plays an important role in our lives and expresses our cultural identity. Being a popular language and fundamentally emotional, music has the power to naturally connect people.

WASLA’s team of volunteers created a CD containing music from different cultures in cooperation with Music Bands from MENA region.

The electronic version was sent to all members, volunteers and associates. Physical copies of the CDs are available and will be distributed during future events organized by WASLA.

The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is an occasion to promote culture and highlight the significance of its diversity as an agent of inclusion and positive change. It represents an opportunity to celebrate culture’s manifold forms, from the tangible and intangible, to creative industries, to the diversity of cultural expressions, and to reflect on how these contribute to dialogue, mutual understanding, and the social, environmental and economic vectors of sustainable development.
